Christmas is just around the corner, and the crew at Stoats HQ are getting pretty excited. We’ve got loads of festive recipes up our sleeves to make sure your Christmas is suitably oaty, and here is one of our favourites. This is a fantastic gift idea, especially if you find the shops too overwhelming! With a layer of oats amongst chocolate chips, flour and sugar, these cookie mix mason jars make the most adorable presents. Better still, they make baking seriously easy. Even that friend of yours who can’t cook by any means will be inviting you over for an abundance of fresh cookies and a good old cuppa! The best part is that you (yes, YOU) can be in charge of the flavours involved. We’ve tried hazelnut and white chocolate (in honour of our delicious bar), a dark chocolate and cranberry, and both work amazingly! The ratios of oats, flour, sugar, and chocolate chips stay the same in each, but the chocolate type is completely up to you, and you can add in whatever else you fancy too.
1 500 ml mason jar
50 grams oats
140 grams self raising flour
50 grams dark brown sugar
60 grams caster sugar
1 tsp salt
100 grams chocolate chips
100 grams of other ‘stuff’ (dried fruit, nuts, seeds etc…)
A paper tag for a Christmas message and additional instructions.
Mix the flour and salt together, add them to your mason jar, and shuffle the jar to make everything level.
Next add the brown sugar and again, flatten the layer.
Now add the oats, again, shuffle.
And then add the white caster sugar (you know what to do…)
Then add the chocolate chips.
Now the rest is up to you!
Close that jar up tight.
Write the instruction tag and attach it with ribbon or string…
‘Empty this jar into a big bowl, and combine with 1 large egg and 150 ml oil of choice. Then divide into cookie sized portions on a greased baking tray, and bake at 180 for 10-12 minutes.’
Voila! Your jars are ready.
